Active Listening - Part 1

It's so simple, yet one of the most valuable attributes of social media is that it allows you to actively listen to what is being said about your company, products, and industry.

Over these next few weeks, we'll take a look at some of the available listening tools. Today, we begin with Google Alerts. Google allows you to specify topics that you want to be alerted about. To participate, you will need a Google account. To set one up, go to:  www.google.com/accounts.

Once you're signed in to your Google account, go to www.google.com/alerts and enter a word or phrase for which you want to receive an email once Google is aware of updated information. You can even specify how often you want to receive emails and the number of results included.

Google allows you to receive alerts on multiple topics. So use it to keep tabs on what is being said about your company, your product(s), your competitors, or important issues within your industry.
